Teresa’s Story

I always knew I'd own my own business one day. I just couldn't figure out how it would happen.
I got my answer in 2017. I was unexpectedly laid off from my job as the Communications Manager for a large nonprofit in California.

I tried my BEST not to be discouraged. After all, I had two, beautiful daughters (a three-month-old and a three-year-old), loving family, solid expertise, and a whole lot of heart. I also had rent to pay.

I found myself staring at a fork in the road.

Either find a new job or take a chance and build the business I had been dreaming of.

Well, if you've read this far you know how that story ends. Not only did I take the plunge into entrepreneurship - I've been building a tribe of fellow professional optimists and super-skilled creatives (The Dream Team). Together, we use our collective gifts to create beautiful words that lift people up, celebrate diversity, and work toward creating a more just world.

The way I see it, my life is one big, beautiful trail of realized potential. I'm a proud LatinX, an indigenous woman, and a first-generation college grad. Before starting Dream Catch, I spent nearly 15 years writing for and working at organizations including the Los Angeles Times, Trust Company of the West global investment firm, Inc. Magazine, CSU Office of the Chancellor, Cal State Long Beach, and more. In these roles, I worked on nearly every aspect of communications, from creating and leading marketing strategies to running social media accounts. I received a Master of Communication Management from USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Cal Poly Pomona. I wrote about her journey of paying off more than $60K in student debt. My story was also featured in CNBC and Kiplinger's Magazine. In my free time I use my skills for various volunteer, and activism projects, including the Families Belong Together rally protesting family separations at the border.
