Forget "Learn More," Here are 15 Button Text Alternatives

When visitors come to a landing page on your website, what action do you want them to take next? If visitors don't know what to do after getting to your website, they'll probably just leave (booooo!). That’s not what we want! Don’t worry because this is where a great call to action (CTA) comes into play.

Your call to action doesn’t have to be big. It may just be signing up for a newsletter, prompting people to download a PDF, or getting them to contact you. Whatever it is, you need to somehow make it enticing.

Enter the mighty CTA button text. Great button text can add that something special to a web page — but how many times have you gotten to the bottom of a page just to see the same old "learn more?" You need a CTA that gets people to do what you're asking them, fast. CTAs with a strong, personalized message perform exponentially better than generic ones like "learn more." So what can you do to create amazing calls to action that make people click?

Let’s Create Some Effective CTAs

Personalized calls to action are key. When thinking about what text to use for your CTA, think about what stage the customer is in their journey. "Learn more" may be appropriate when they are first finding out about your business or products, but after that, you want to include text that is relevant to their next step. Use your CTA to prompt them to schedule a free consultation, read a free chapter of your ebook, or sign up for your list to get a discount. People will take an action that they feel is relevant to them, so put some real thought into what CTA you choose for the page.

Next, make sure that the action you're asking them to take is simple to do, easy to understand, and has a payoff. The easier you make it for them, the more likely they are to take an action. Keep the text on the button to just a few words - short and sweet is always best. And make sure they know what they'll be getting when they click. A phrase like "get your free sample," will get people to click because they're getting something for free.

And finally, always strive to create a sense of urgency. Add the words "now" or "today" when appropriate, so that people feel like they need to take action immediately.  If there’s a genuine deadline to your offer, create urgency with that button text so your visitors won't put off clicking.
